I recommend: Lamb Burger

Ovelia Psistaria stands out in decor amongst its Hellenic counterparts in Astoria. This modernized version of a Greek eatery has more of a lounge/ bar vibe to it rather than a restaurant. It’s a great place to meet for a drink and share a few small plates but on the whole I found the food to be really unimpressive.

We tried a number of dishes and I had the worst saganaki I’ve ever tried (surprising for Astoria)! The grilled octopus was chewy and the fried calamari was tough and inedible.

The best dish we tried was the Lamb Burger, which came with a nice topping of mushrooms and a yummy side of fries. The service was wonderful and the rest of the dishes we tried were unremarkable.

However, in Astoria there are way too many places serving seriously superb Greek food to bring me back to Ovelia again.

Here is some of what we ate:

PIKILIA DIPS

FRIED KALAMARI

XTAPODI STIN SXARA ( Grilled Octopus)

SAGANAKI

LAMBURGINI (ground lamb burger)

FRENCH FRIES
