Must try: Almond Croissant , Dka “dominique’s kouign amann”

Chef Dominique Ansel is the master of the house when it comes to baking. Nominated to be a James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef in 2013, this ex- Daniel and Fauchon chef has set a new standard for French bakeries around the city.

The formula at Dominique Ansel Bakery is simple. The menu offers a limited yet varied array of breakfast, lunch and anytime savory and sweet treats.

For instance, at breakfast the Perfect Little Egg Sandwich is a must try. At lunch, one must have one of Ansel’s delectable sandwiches that are made to perfection.

And of course for the anytime treats one cannot leave without sampling his famous DKA ‘Dominique’s Kouign Amman’ – a signature caramelized croissant or anyone of his superb pastries.

So, with a meal that was so good I wondered why I left feeling discontented.

I attribute that to the feel of the space and the mood of the staff. There’s no happy, bohemian SoHo vibe going on in here. The tone is courteous but solemn, harried and aloof.

For someone like me to keep going back– I need a little more that that!
