Founding Farmers, Washington D.C.

Founding Farmers, Washington D.C.

Founding Farmers on Urbanspoon

Food: ☆☆☆½

Service: ☆☆☆

Ambiance: ☆☆☆

Cost: $$$

Must try: Fried chicken Egg Waffles, Stuffed French Toast, Fresh squeezed juices

Founding Farmers is an eco-friendly, Certified Green Restaurant that was built from recycled and reclaimed products. This upscale, farmhouse styled eatery is housed within the International Monetary Fund (IMF) building.

At Founding Farmers, the menu offers American classics made from locally sourced and sustainably farmed products. The food here is very good. The freshness of the ingredients used reflects in the exquisite taste of their dishes. You must try their fresh juices the cranberry was really zesty.

However for me the spot lacked soul. Everything from the service to the space seems cold and distant which didn’t gel with all its wonderful methodology. Everything seemed too pristine.

I found that Founding Farmers is more a chic farmhouse accented restaurant that is just green enough for the suit types. For me, I would rather go hang at a more bohemian space like Busboys and Poets where the essence enfolds the place.

Here is some of what we ate:

Crabs Cake Eggs Benedict

Fried Chicken, Eggs and Waffles

Stuffed French Toast

Farmhouse Waffles

Pastrami Hash

Farmers Lemonade

The Green Bean on Urbanspoon

Food: ☆☆ ½

 Service: ☆☆☆

 Ambiance: ☆☆☆

 Cost: $

 I recommend: Greens Eggs

The Green Bean Café is an extremely popular breakfast and lunch spot in Northampton. This tiny café always has a long line to sample its conscious cuisine. The food is pretty good. Some combinations of food work better than other for me. I really loved their “green eggs” which was basically eggs with kale. It was a deliciously healthy idea and was yummy too. I was not as impressed with the Almond gravy dish, which sounded great but was lacking in flavor.

Here is some of what we ate:

Green Eggs

The Basic – Two eggs any style.

Herb & Onion Bread with Almond Gravy

The Lucky Devil

Food: ☆☆☆☆ 1/2

Service: ☆☆☆☆☆

Ambiance: ☆☆☆

Cost: $$$

Dishes not to miss: Pan Onion fried chips, Heirloom tomato salad with burrata, Tangerine creamsicle pot de creme

Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink is possibly one of the best food experiences Miami has to offer. Set in the funky Design District, Chef/Owner Michael Schwartz has created a casual bistro, which is an ode to “Genuine Food & Drink”.

Michael Schwartz is a leader in the farm to table movement and was recently awarded the prestigious 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: South.

Schwartz’s passion for the freshest, finest ingredients is evident in the truly superb fare he has to offer. Each dish is composed in honor of every component that has been utilized. The results are just divine.

I love that there are no pretensions here. People come here to enjoy simple New American, ingredient-driven cuisine at really affordable prices and I’m all about that!
