Morimoto on Urbanspoon

Masahru Morimoto’s imposing iron chef personality sure does translate into his restaurant.

His sprawling, modern, cavernous restaurant is quite magnificent. One of the most striking elements is the wall made of bottles filled with clear liquid, which has an interesting play of lights on it. There is a very funky bar area downstairs alongside some really cool bathrooms. Read the rest of this entry

DBGB Kitchen and Bar on Urbanspoon

My ratings for this meal:
Food: ☆☆☆
Ambiance: ☆☆☆
Service: ☆☆☆
Price: $$$
I recommend: Tuna Tartare with a Harissa-Sesame Sauce, Cucumbers, Radish and Crispy Rice, Fried Egg Bourguinon, Creamy Polenta

Daniel Boulud’s first expedition downtown has given birth to DBGB Kitchen and Bar, his most informal eatery yet. DBGB’s modern digs pays homage to the neighborhood which used to be New York’s industrial restaurant supply area. Shinny copper pots, wine bottles, glasses and other utilitarian supplies placed on funky industrialized shelves serve as a major part of the decor. Most of the walls are mirrored and have Boulud’s favorite food quotes written on them. Read the rest of this entry

Spice Market, Meatpacking District, NYC

Spice Market, Meatpacking District, NYC

Spice Market on Urbanspoon

Take a trip to Southeast Asia by eating at Jean-George Vongerichten’s Spice Market. The cuisine here  is inspired by regional street food combined with Vongerichten’s distinctive touch. The interiors are resplendent and definitely make you feel like you are in some exotic locale of Asia. There are decorative pagodas and arches that adorn the enormous space and a grand staircase that leads to the hopping bar area downstairs. All of this makes for a really great spot to hang out at where one is stylishly served by waiters and scantily clad waitresses, dressed in bright orange hues. Read the rest of this entry
