BKNY is so aptly named because once you enter this restaurant, you really are transported from New York to Bangkok – at a fraction of the cost!

This fabulous find is a real jewel in a part of Queens where really good ethnic food is very hard to find. BKNY was opened in 2006 and has been serving up phenomenal Thai cuisine ever since. The owner Usai has managed not only to bring the authentic flavors of Thailand here to New York but also the unmatched warmth and hospitality that can only be truly Thai.

Not only does BKNY have some of the best Thai food I’ve eaten around the New York area but it is comparable to and as good as some of food I’ve tried in Bangkok! Their portions are generous and the price is just right. They have great lunch specials and a really nice party room where one can host all kinds of events at extremely reasonable rates. BKNY – as all my friends know –  is definitely my most favorite local food spot.

Here is some of what I have tried there:

THAI SALAD WITH PEANUT SAUCE

I always believe that you can judge a Thai restaurant by its peanut sauce. Generally if the peanut sauce is bad then it can a be slippery slope from there. BKNY has the most amazing peanut sauce. It adds just the right amount of bite to this great salad.

CHICKEN SATAY

Their satays are fabulous. They are marinated and grilled to perfection and served with their wonderful peanut sauce.

BBQ BEEF SHORT RIBS

I don’t eat beef but this is a family favorite and is always ordered when we all go to BKNY together.

TOM YUM GOONG

This spicy shrimp soup is a must try. What I love about BKNY is that they truly understand the meaning of SPICY ( don’t worry they make dishes to all palates – mild to spicy!) Their Tom Yum Goong is one of the best I have had. It has just the right combination of spicy, sour and sweet that makes this soup a real winner!

CLASSIC THAI FRIED RICE

The fried rice is definitely a kid’s and grown up’s favorite!

PAD THAI

Nothing quite hits the spot like a really good Pad Thai. I love the Pad Thai at BKNY. I like to get it extra spicy with lots of crushed peanuts on the side. Squeeze that wedge of lemon on top and you are all  good to go!

LAD NA

This is a flat rice noodles dish with chinese broccoli, mushroom and a special gravy. It is a really nicely flavored noodle dish that doesn’t have any spice to it at all. It’s a great dish to get for kids and those who don’t enjoy strong flavors.

PLA LARD PRIK

This crispy whole or filleted fish with spicy thai chili sauce is really superb. The fish is fried to the perfect crunch and the chili sauce that smothers the fish complements it very well.

KOONG GRA TEIM

This jumbo shrimp sauteed to a crisp with pepper sauce is one of my favorites. I love the fresh green Thai peppercorns and the crunchy bed of lettuce that it comes with. This dish tastes really good eaten with white jasmine rice.

PAD KA PROW

This is their classic chicken with basil leaves dish. I love that they add crunchy onions and string beans to their basil chicken. I prefer to order this dish with ground chicken but you can get it with slices too.

PRARAM DELIGHT

This is basically a chicken with peanut sauce. Given that the peanut sauce is so good at BKNY, you know that this dish is going to be spectacular.

MIXED VEGETABLES WITH MOCK DUCK AND BASIL LEAVES

Mock duck is a a high protein, gluten based food thats mimics the texture of duck. This is was very good, the vegetables were crunchy and had a nice bite to them and the texture of the mock duck went very well with all that it was combined with.
