Got a craving for soup dumplings?
Let me offer you a fabulous alternative to Joe’s Shanghai…
Located on Prince street in Flushing, NY, Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao offers soup dumplings at their very best.
Unlike other restaurants, at Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao, they do not keep hoards of pre-prepared dumplings. Here, you can watch each batch of dumplings being freshly prepared and steamed – so be prepared to wait – its so worth it!!!
Here is some of what we ate:
FRIED BUN WITH CHIVES & EGG
Their stuffed fried buns were great. It was nicely crisp on the outside with a tasty filling inside. These have to be eaten hot!
STEAMED VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS
I didn’t like their steamed vegetable dumplings much. The filling seemed to be lacking in flavor.
PAN FRIED DUMPLINGS
These pork filled, pan fried dumplings were good – though I did think the skins were a little thick.
STEAMED PORK WONTONS WITH SPICY SAUCE
I really loved the sesame sauce that these dumplings came with. It was a really mild, fresh tasting sauce that went very well with the wontons.
PAN FRIED CRISPY NOODLES WITH SHREDDED CHICKEN
I loved their pan fried crispy noodles. These crunchy noodles are smothered with a delicious chicken and vegetable sauce. Top it off with some chili oil and its mmmm mmmm good!!
STEAMED CRAB MEAT AND PORK SOUP DUMPLINGS
And finally after a long wait came the fabulous soup dumplings. They are outstanding – I recommend you order several of these at a time because once you start….you really wont want to stop!
The best way to eat these dumplings is to bite a small hole on top of the dumpling, pour a little black vinegar and a dash of chili oil in. Let it cool off a little bit and enjoy…….
