Special notes: As of January 2011, Chef Yasuda has moved to Tokyo to open a restaurant there. However the quality of Sushu Yasuda seems to have been unaffected by this move.
Sushi Yasuda probably serve some of the freshest sushi in New York City.
This elegant temple of fine fish is housed in a soothing space that is adorned with calming planks of bamboo. Yasuda is all about simplicity and purity in its food and its space.
Chef Nomiuchi Yasuda produces pieces of perfection. There is equal emphasis on the rice as is on the fish. He is legendary in combining the two in perfect harmony.
Sushi Yasuda is for sushi purists. Chef Yasuda is a traditionalist who does not believe in nettling with or experiment with the basics of really good sushi.
For me, the meal was a bit boring. The fish was fabulous but there was no excitement in what was I was eating. I like a little surprise to go with the sublimity of the fish – like at Sushi of Gari or Sasabune. However, my pet peeves cannot take away from the true genius of Yasuda.
Try their $24 sushi dinner special. It might be one of the best bargains in town for fish that is truly otherworldly.
