Must try: Ham and Cheese Croissant, Squash Soup
M. Wells is back! This time it is in the avatar of a schoolhouse cafeteria-style restaurant at MoMA PS1.
The décor mimics a schoolroom with modern touches. There are several communal tables and a limited menu written up on a chalkboard that changes daily (or hourly as they run out of stuff or make more of it).
Hugue Dufour and Sarah Obraitis are the creative team behind the outlandish but intriguing French-Canadian eats served here. I had a spectacular squash soup and roasted wild mushroom with poached egg whilst the roasted bone marrow was just plain ole’ odd to me.
Depending on your tolerance for the peculiar…dishes offered range from things like “roasted blood pudding” to “rabbit terrine”. The question is does all this eccentricity make you want to barf or bite?
Here is some of what we ate:
ICED HIBISCUS TEA
SQUASH SOUP
HERB SALAD
GRAVLAX TART
BONE MARROW TART
EGG AND TOMATO POT, PESTO
HAM AND CHEESE CROISSANT
POACHED EGG
ROASTED WILD MUSHROOMS
ROASTED BONE MARROW
