Must try: Crudo, Granchio peekytoe crab, Astice nova scotia lobster
Marea is Chef Michael White ’s extravagant yet outstanding Italian-seafood spot. Suitably housed at its Central Park South location, one needs to be on an expense account to really experience Marea as it should be.
Marea which means “tide” in Italian serves seriously fresh seafood which has been sourced from the Mediterranean and other spots around the world. Whilst the seafood reigns supreme here, the pastas are not to be ignored. I had an outstanding Tortelli – a lobster ravioli.
Your best option is to opt for the $89 prix fixe menu where one can experience the entire breadth of the menu. The only part of the meal I really didn’t enjoy was the desserts which were quite underwhelming.
I had the most amazing peekytoe crab appetizer and crudos are outstanding too. Oh! there is so much to choose from……and such few funds to pay for it!!
Here is some of what we ate:
Assaggio Di Tre: tasting of three crudo
Astice nova scotia lobster, burrata, eggplant al funghetto, basil
Granchio peekytoe crab
Ippoglosso: crusted alaskan halibut
Capesante: seared sea scallops
Tortelli lobster ravioli, zucchini, chanterelles
Agnello E Acciuga braised lamb risotti
Semmifreddo Di Nocciola
Fragola
