Daniel Boulud’s first expedition downtown has given birth to DBGB Kitchen and Bar, his most informal eatery yet. DBGB’s modern digs pays homage to the neighborhood which used to be New York’s industrial restaurant supply area. Shiny copper pots, wine bottles, glasses and other utilitarian supplies placed on funky industrialized shelves serve as a major part of the decor. Most of the walls are mirrored and have Boulud’s favorite food quotes written on them.
DBGB is basically a dressed up burger joint. The “meat” of its menu is in the many kinds of sausages and burgers that it offers. The fare is American Tavern meets French Brasserie. However, if you are not into sausages or burgers, there are plenty of fine food choices on the menu where Boulud’s magical touch is very evident. There is a Kitchen section where a full menu is available and an even more informal Bar section where you can have “Bar Bites”.
The food is good, the atmosphere casual and fun! I think that DBGB is a great addition to the downtown restaurant scene.
