Must try: Carrot Cake
The Buttercup Bake Shop is a cute little Midtown cupcake café serving pastel colored cupcakes and other old fashioned American desserts. Owned by Jennifer Appel, one of the original founders of Magnolia Bakery, this spot is extremely popular especially for it’s cupcakes and cakes.
I find the cakes/ cupcakes at the Buttercup Bake Shop a bit on the drier side but this it seems to balance out with the thick layers of moist frosting smothers them.
I am more a fan of the Buttercup Bake Shop recipes from their cookbook than the stuff that is sold at their store. I have used so many of Jennifer Appel’s recipes which have turned out fantastic- especially the carrot cake, which is one of the best I’ve ever tried.
Buttercup Bake Shop is more of a take-out spot from though they do have a very limited amount of seating space. I am a big fan of their chocolate cupcake (not so much the cake) but that frosting is so yummy. I always go in here and try and pick the one with the tallest head of frosting! That with a little vanilla ice cream on the side really hits my sweet spot good!
