Milkflower in Astoria might just be one of my favorite new pizzerias in town.
Opened by a charming duo of brothers – Peter and Danny Aggelatos, who are Astoria residents and both of who worked in the food business for several years.
Milkflower offers a great selection of Neapolitan style pies with simple toppings such as “Pomodoro” to grander ones such as “Chico Verde”, “Brussels Sprout” or “Corn on the Hog”.
The pizzas shine really bright here. This is a product of fine ingredients, a great chef and their centerpiece custom, Italian-built Stefano Ferrara wood fired brick oven.
Whilst the pizzas certainly are the star of the show at Milkflower, do not pass on their starters. The meatballs are made to perfection – so much so that we had to order them twice!
They also offer an array of “Toasts” with toppings such as pea, ricotta, lavender flower, lemon zest or tomato confit, goat cheese, toasted walnuts.
I didn’t think I could love a pizzeria more than Motorino http://therestaurantfairy.com/2013/06/20/motorino-east-village-nyc/, but I have to say that Milkflower comes pretty darned close!
Here is some of what we ate:
