Must try: Soft Scrambled Eggs Vol-Au-Vent
Reminiscent of Balthazar but with a cheerier feel, Lafayette is Andrew Carmellini’s ode to French cooking. With two ultra successful ventures at Locanda Verde and The Dutch, the launch and popularity of Lafayette was a surety.
Located in the expansive space that once housed Chinatown Brasserie, Lafayette offers a Boulangerie/Patisserie in the front-end whilst the dining room spreads over towards the back.
The menu offers market-driven French favorites often cooked with a modern twist. The food is good but nothing I tried was brow raising.
At Lafayette, it seems like Carmellini has applied the Balthazarian formula that will certainly work at keeping this spot all the rage.
Here is some of what we ate:
Almond Croissant
Egg Lafayette
Soft Scrambled Eggs Vol-Au-Vent
Croissant Sandwich
Brussels-Style Waffle
