Must try: Fresh Burrata, Israeli Street Fair, Kanafeh
Balaboosta meaning “perfect housewife” in Yiddish is a wonderful, casual, Middle Eastern eatery owned by Chef Einat Admony who also runs the really popular Taïm.
At Balaboosta, Admony originally from Tel Aviv, serves imaginative, nouveau-Mediterranean fare that is rooted in her Israeli roots.
The food is very good. The small plates/ appetizers tend to overshadow the entrees. We tried a really excellent “Fresh Burrata” which came with a beet & walnut pesto crostini – stunning!! I also really loved the “Israeli Street Fair” which had a superbly spiced chicken and merguez in a pita.
Don’t leave without trying their Kanafeh which sits on a bed of blended berries and is the perfect way to end a meal here.
Here is some of what we ate:
Hummus “Mortar and Pestle”
Toasted Za’atar Pita
Fresh Burrata
Grilled Eggplant Bruschetta
Israeli Street Fair
Grilled Lamb Chops
Kanafeh
