This past week, the fabulous team from Tabélog put together yet another terrific event – this time at the much talked about downtown hotspot – Skál – a venue I have been dying to check out.
Our wonderful hosts treated us to spectacular Nordic bites created by Executive Chef Ben Spiegel formerly of Noma and Willows Inn fame.
Skál (cheers) is a modern Icelandic restaurant with a cool country farmhouse feel. Dressed in hues of blue and white the walls are sparsely decorated with mismatched china plates.
The menu offers Nordic inspired plates – simple fare that’s big on fresh ingredients and interesting combinations. My favorites for the evening were the “Salt Cod Croquettes” and the “Heirloom Carrots”.
Here is Christophe – one of the owners at Skál who was the perfect host and disarmingly adorable!
Check out this brilliant photobomb by the spectacularly talented Arodomus – well played my new friend.
It was so great mingling with passionate foodies, who soon became friends! Huge shout out to fellow bloggers and pals – I Just Want to Eat, Cutie Patroller, Rockchic, Arodomus, The Cake Dealer, Johnny Prime, Chasing James Beard and many more.
Thanks for hosting us Tabélog – Takehiro, Kenta and Sachiko – you always do things just right!
Here is some of what we ate:
Cocktails
Pickles
Wellfleet Oysters
Long Island Duck Wings
Heirloom Carrots
Raw Beef
