Must try: Salmon, cream cheese, red onion and capers sandwich
Just when you thought New York City could not possibly house one more bagel shop – along comes Black Seed Bagels in Nolita and lines start to wrap around the block for its offerings!
Co-owner Noah Bernamoff (Mile End) and Matt Kliegman (The Smile) strive to bring the best combination of Montreal and New York bagels at Black Seed. All the bagels are hand rolled, poached and wood fired.
The results are slightly smaller bagels which are dense, chewy and really tasty. They offer plain, poppy, sesame, everything, salt, garlic, pumpernickel and multigrain but availability changes in minutes according to what has been sold and what comes out of the oven.
The thing to try is one of their signature sandwiches like Beet Cured Salmon horseradish cream cheese, radish & herbs or Tobiko Spread salmon & butter lettuce. They also have the standard/ gourmet spreads and more available to go with their bagels. They also have Stumptown coffee which is definitely a local favorite.
The digs at Black Seed are really cool and there is limited seating space. There are always long lines at Black Seed but it moves pretty fast and getting a spot to stay in is not easy.
Black Seed Bagels has already expanded to a second location at Hudson Eats and hopefully soon there will be plenty more!
Here is some of what we ate:
Salmon cream cheese, red onion, tomato & capers
Tobiko Spread salmon & butter lettuce
Sturgeon, arulgala & egg
