I recently went to a press dinner at Le Village owned by notable Chef Didier Pawlicki of Taureau and La Sirene.
Having established great success at his other ventures, Didier has set out to do something a little different at his newest venture. At Le Village the focus is a menu that strives to offer French favorites with a focus on gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options.
Take for example the “Soupe a l’Oignon” made with a vegan broth which was missing none of the hearty flavors one expects. The one served to us was gluten free too and I didn’t even know it. This is what Didier is masterfully accomplishing at Le Village by crafting several dishes that are so delicious that you wouldn’t even imagine them being vegan or gluten free.
Some of the standout dishes for me were the “Coq au Vin” (gluten-free) with less than 25% carbs which was really full-bodied and delicious. I also loved the “Royan’s Ravioles a la Crème” – a rarity in New York City which was so delicately prepared and truly a delightful dish.
Dessert was just as impressive with a gluten-free “Fondant au Chocolat” and a terrific “Banana Brûlée”.
Le Village is BYOB – so be sure to bring along your favorite bottle of wine and a whole lot of friends to enjoy the experience.
I love that a place like Le Village exists where one can still enjoy the classic favorites but with a healthful twist. Kudos to Chef Didier Pawlicki and I am sure in time, Le Village will be another feather in his cap of many!
