Looking for a really cool spot on the LES with a retro vibe and zingy Asian/Mexican small plates? Take a trip downtown to sample Chef Alex Lopez eats at Tijuana Picnic.
Drawing on recipes from his Mexican heritage, Lopez provides plates that are fresh and tasty. They go especially well with the delicious Mezcal based cocktails – of which I loved the “Smokin’ Maid” made with Mezcal, Cucumber, Mint, Lime and Agave – come on now!!
For me, one of the standout dishes was the “Fluke Ceviche” cured in passion fruit juice, heart of palm, jalapeño, cilantro which provided just the right tangy kick to it.
The soft tacos were really yummy especially the fish ones.
Tijuana Picnic has two levels to hang out in. Both have large communal style and individual tables. It has a really fun party feel to it – you walk in and feel like you are ready to have a good time!
Great food, great drinks and cool digs make Tijuana Picnic a must visit spot.
