Mizu Sushi sits on a quiet street nestled between two notable restaurants around the Flatiron area.
This Japanese spot is owned by David Sunarto who has worked his way up to being a restaurant owner after several decades of hard work at spots such as Benihana and Haru.
The head chef at Mizu is Nakao Hirakata who previously owned his own Japanese spot (Mishima) for over 20 years.
The menu offered at Mizu Sushi is rather extensive making it a little hard to narrow down choices but with a lot of help from our servers and David himself, we settled on some of the house specials.
One of the signature dishes here is the “White Tuna Truffle”. This is the dish was outstanding. Delicately seared white tuna is topped with a truffle accented yuzu sauce. We just absolutely loved and should have ordered more!
They also offer a plentitude of fun rolls which are reminiscent of that offered on the menus of Haru and Benihana.
Aside from the sushi sections we decided to try one of the warm lunch specials and the “Gyu Don” was a perfect pick.
Mizu Sushi is very affordable and offers a vast menu of a myriad of Japanese options. The “White Tuna Truffle” is definitely a must try!
Here is some of what we ate:
Rock Shrimp Tempura
White Tuna Truffle
Crazy Toro Roll
Flatiron Roll
Tamago
Hotatae
Toro
Salmon
Gyu Don
