Chef Daniel Boulud’s db Bistro Modernein mid-town, is a perfect lunch spot where French cuisine meets the American palate to create delightfully flavored food. Chef Oliver Muller, has created a seasonal menu that is really marvelous. The interiors are modern with very clean lines though quarters can get very cramped, especially in the back room. The service is very warm and friendly (very cute waiters with charming smiles!). I recommend going for the pre-fix lunch as food here can get pretty pricey.

I went to db Bistro Moderne during the NYC winter restaurant week and got a great deal on lunch. Though we didn’t try the Original db Burger, it’s meant to be the dish to eat here. Perhaps next time……..

Here is some of what we ate:

White Coco Bean Soup with Poached Chicken, Winter Vegetables

This soup had hearty vegetables, delicately cut and delicious coco beans in a very tasty consomme. It’s just the kind of soup that you woud like to have on a cold winter’s day. It went really well with a wonderful Olive Bread that they served up in their bread basket.

Diver Scallop Ceviche with Blood Orange, Cilantro, Citrus Zest

I’m not a huge ceviche or scallop fan but this dish was very well done. The scallops were super fresh and adorned with a light but very fresh and tangy citrus sauce.

Winter Squash Risotto with Butternut Squash, Arugula, Toasted Pumpkin Seeds

This dish was a real winner. It had a fabulous combination of fall/winter vegetables in a wonderfully creamy risotto. It was topped off with really fresh Arugula and Pumpkin Seeds that really brought all of the flavors together perfectly in this dish.

Atlantic Cod with Parsley Root Purée, Salsify, Carrots, Button Mushrooms

I had theAtlantic Cod as my entree and thought it was outstanding. The cod was perfectly cooked and sprinkled with herb flavored breadcrumbs. It was placed on a bed of seasonal vegetables which were all superbly cooked.

Dessert

I wasn’t very impressed with the desserts. We tried the Molten Chocolate Cake with Pistachio-Raspberry Crémeux, Gianduja Ice Cream and the White Chocolate Coconut Mousse  with Poached Pineapple, Mango-Banana Sorbet. I thought the Pistachio-Raspberry Crémeux was very good but the chocolate cake was just okay. The same with the White Chocolate Coconut Mousse. It really didn’t move me.
