Dong Yi Feng, Flushing, NYC

Dong Yi Feng on Urbanspoon

Flushing is swarming with tiny eateries to giant banquet halls that serve Dim Sum.  In this sea of competition, I feel that Dong Yi Feng distinguishes itself by continually serving delicious Dim Sum at amazingly low prices. Their food is definitely a cut above the rest.

They have two floors of seating and a parking lot next door (if you get there early enough). The staff is very efficient and the Dim Sum cart ladies are just dolls – sweet and friendly as can be!

This really is one of my favorite weekend brunch meals. The earlier you get there, the better your chances are of not waiting on line. Sometimes we roll out of bed and head straight there for breakfast. Generally the crowds start coming in by about 11:00 AM……..so be the early bird because at Dong Yi Feng, there are many yummy worms to catch!

Here is some of what we ate:

STEAMED RICE ROLLS WITH SHRIMP

These are one of my favorite Dim Sum dishes and they make it so well at Dong Yi Feng.   These steamed rice rolls are made with thin rice noodles and filled with shrimp, beef, vegetables and so on. Generally sweet soy sauce is poured over the dish. It tastes really good with the soy sauce and some hot oil mixed it.

PAN FRIED CHIVE CAKES

These pan fried chive cakes are a little crispy on the outside yet soft and delectable on the inside. They are generally made with minced shrimp, garlic, and chives . The filling is wrapped with a wonton skin and lightly pan fried.

VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS

Their pan fried vegetable dumplings were stuffed mainly with chives and garlic and were really tasty.

SHRIMP AND SNOW PEA LEAF DUMPLING

I really like these dumplings that are stuffed with shrimp and snow pea leaves. The leaves give these dumpling a really nice earthy flavor.

STUFFED HOT PEPPER

I love these hot peppers that are stuffed with minced shrimp and covered with a really lightly flavored black bean sauce which offsets the heat of the peppers beautifully.

FRIED SHRIMP ROLL

I love these  thin crispy shrimp rolls that are served with mayonnaise. They are not too oily and have the perfect crunch to them.

STEAMED MALAY SPONGE CAKE

These lightly sweetened steamed spongecakes are a perfect ending to a delightful Dim Sum meal.
