Bark, located in hip Park Slope, Brooklyn, is home to the artisanal hot dog. This is where Brandon Gillis and Joshua Sharkey pay homage to this classic American favorite.
Their eco-conscious hot dog hangout, serves some of the best tasting franks in the five boroughs. Practically everything they serve is sourced locally, organically grown and made in house from the bread, the sauerkraut, pickles, and even the butter!
The frankfurters are sourced from Hartmann’s Old World Sausage in the Finger Lakes. What makes Bark’s hot dogs extra yummy is the special coating of house made smoked lard butter that gets basted on every dog before it is served up. There are several toppings to dress your dog with such as pickles, baked beans, chili and many more.
You must try one of their thick, creamy shakes that are made with il Laboratorio del Gelato ice cream. It is a decadent delight!
I also really enjoyed their “disco fries” which come bathed in gravy and cheese sauce.
At Bark, you know exactly what you are eating and from where it was sourced. There are lists of all the ingredients used in everything they serve. Aside from serving conscious cuisine, most everything you eat on or with at Bark is biodegradable. They tell you exactly how much effort they are putting into reusing and recycling everything – even their kitchen grease!
Kudos to Bark – for reinventing the wheel. I love how Gillis and Sharkey have transformed classic American fast food to gourmet slow food!
