Must try: Paitan ramen, Totto extreme spicy ramen
Totto Ramen reminds me of typical Ramen-ya’s in Japan, which serve up some seriously delicious noodles.
This cash only, narrow noodle house seats less than 30 people at a time and gets extremely crowded. The waits can be really long, so the trick it to come early or very late. If you are not there when they call your name – you go back to the bottom of the list – no exceptions!!
The specialty at Totto Ramen is paitan ramen, which is made from a chicken based broth versus the tonkotsu (pork) broth, which is served at Ippudo. They also serve a miso and shoyu (soy-sauce) based broth, which were both really delicious too.
Though the East Village is known to serve some of the best Ramen in the city, I think that Totto Ramen shines just as much. It provides a great midtown option for those craving some seriously good soup!
