I was recently invited to review Sofia Wine Bar & Café, which is an unexpected find at its Midtown East location.

This home-style Italian restaurant, owned by Tommaso and Toni DeGrezia, offers an expansive, global wine list and rustic small plate fare.

The menu features Neapolitan and Sicilian favorites made from original family recipes. Tommaso and Toni take great pride in overseeing the preparation of every dish that comes out of the kitchen. The food did not blow me away but the winners for me were the ricotta crostini, the meatballs and the cannoli (which is flown in from Italy!)

The space is really delightful! Toni DeGrezia oversaw all the design details. Housed in a red brick townhouse, every nook and corner of Sofia is decorated with charming Italian accented embellishments.

Sofia Wine Bar & Cafe is that perfect place to grab an after-work drink, share that first date or spend a night out with friends or family.

Here is some of what we ate:

Bruschetta Trio
(Tomato, eggplant, ricotta)

Mozzarella (made in-house)

Margherita Pizza

Spinach & Artichoke Dip

Stuffed Mushrooms

Mac n’ cheese

Meatball & Lasagna

Cannoli
