Must try: Shrimp Tempura Salad, Dragon Rolls

Yamaguchi might be one of the better Japanese restaurants in the Queens/ Long Island area. Conveniently housed in its Port Washington location, right across from the LIRR station, this small Japanese eatery is constantly buzzing.

Japanese owned and family run, the hostess is the wonderfully energetic Yasuko Yamaguchi. Her husband Akira Yamaguchi runs the show from behind the sushi counter, which produces considerably fine quality sushi and sashimi.

The fare is traditional Japanese cuisine – there is no gimmicky fusion rolls offered here. The food is consistently good. My favorite dishes here are the Ebi- Tempura Salad which comes with a knockout citrus based dressing and their Dragon Rolls are some of the best I’ve had. For dessert they offer a huge plate of complimentary fruits which is a refreshing way to end a good meal.

Yamaguchi offers a haven for dependable Japanese food in an area where this maybe hard to find.
