Ta Prohm in Siem Reap is probably the most well known of all the temples because of Angelina Jolie swinging through its ruins as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.
This temple is truly spectacular with magnificent tree roots growing and twisting within and through the walls of the ancient stone temple.
To wind down our day we had dinner at the very popular Khmer Kitchen in the heart of Siem Reap. This spot was noted in the New York Times and was visited by Mick Jagger which increased it popularity tremendously.
Khmer Kitchen is a pretty basic spot, almost feels like Khmer tavern serving solid food and drinks with no fanfare or fuss.
The menu offers a variety of the standard Khmer dishes. They have a live grilling station outside the restaurant which looked and smelled so good but was very disappointing to try because it was slathered in thick American barbecue sauce!!( please don’t try it)
The rest of the dishes were good – their fried shrimps were really crunchy and tasty as was their Chicken curry.
There is nothing standout about Khmer Kitchen but serves as a safe bet for good food at really affordable prices.
Here is some of what we ate:
Fried Prawn
Vegetable Fried Rice
Vegetable Sour Soup
Amok Fish
Grilled Pork
Vegetable Fried Rice
Stir Fried Morning Glory
