Street style Thai food comes to Astoria at a charming new spot called Pye Boat Noodles.
The menu specializes in “kuay tiew rua or boat noodles” which originated from hawkers selling these noodles on boats in the floating markets of Thailand. One can choose from three different kinds of broth and four kinds of noodles.
We opted for the pork broth which was flavored with a hint of anise and was really flavorful. One can use the “spice” caddy to enhance flavors of the soup until it tastes just right for you.
There are other offerings too on the menu which sets it apart from “regular” Thai spots. Most of the dishes here are what one would find at Thai street food stalls.
I think that Pye Boat Noodle has really upped the Thai food scene in Astoria such that one doesn’t have to travel to Woodside for authentic eats.
Here is some of what we ate:
Fried Pork Strips
Dumpling minced shrimp, pork and jicama
Papaya Salad
Paad See Ew
Boat Noodle With Pork
Pad Kaprow
