Astoria Seafood represents the quintessential soul of Queens.
What was a seafood market run by the same Greek family for three generation, has now extended itself to cook up its super fresh wares in essentially three ways – grilled, sautéed or fried.
There is a smattering of sides with the Greek salad and spinach pie being the best of its offerings but the star of the show is the seafood. You name it and they have it from lobsters to scallops to all kinds of fish, octopus – the choices are endless.
There will always be a wait at Astoria Seafood – you wait to get seated, once you have picked your seafood, you wait on line to put your order in and then you wait for it to be brought out. It’s boisterous, chaotic and all of this will take its own sweet time. Nothing happens here in a New York minute but it’s got a whole lot of soul.
