AbuQir Seafood, Astoria, NYC

AbuQir – an Egyptian seafood spot might just be one of my favorite spots in Astoria.

This tiny eatery is reminiscent of Astoria seafood but on a much smaller scale. There is a selection of fresh fish of the day from which you pick what you want to eat.

The owner Ahmed Ibrahim, is from Alexandria and he wanted to recreate how fresh fish is eaten in his hometown. He goes to the fish market in Hunts Point in the Bronx every morning at 1 AM to acquire the best of the days catch.

The seafood can be cooked in a couple ways, baked, fried, grilled, sautéed. Do order one of the fish dishes “Egyptian style” where the blacked skin imparts a wonderful flavor.

I highly recommend trying the seafood tagine – its outstanding!

Aside from the seafood there are outstanding sides. The salad is super fresh and the eggplant is highly addictive – actually everything at AbuQir is highly addictive!
