Miette

Miette is french for “little crumbs”. What a perfect little name for a perfect little place. Housed in the Ferry Building in San Francisco, Miette is just as adorable as it sounds. This Patisserie and Confiserie was born in 2001 out of Megan Ray’s passion for baked goods and confection. Everything about Miette is so charming from the pastel cake plates that decorate it’s shelves to the delicately decorated baked goods that are for sale.

Here is some of what we tried:

THE CARROT CAKE

Miette’s carrot cake is one of the best I’ve ever eaten. It was truly outstanding. I thought their frosting was unbelievably good – not too sweet and not too heavy on the cream cheese – just perfectly combined to produce a perfect product.

CHOCOLATE LAYER CREAM CAKE

This cake was absolutely divine! It was made of four layers of perfectly moist chocolate cake filled with a lightly sweetened whipped cream and was covered with a bittersweet chocolate ganache. It was fantastic!

THE SCHARFENN BERGER

This is a moist chocolate cake made with Scharfenn Berger’s cocoa and chocolate. This cake is one of their signature items. I thought it was good but I have to say that I have had better cakes that are very similar to this one. Somehow – it just didn’t quite hit the spot for me.

THE CHOCOLATE TART AND MACARONS

Miette’s chocolate tart is really really delicious. Every bite you take has the perfect amount of tart and chocolate in it. The Macarons were also very good.
