Must try: Peppered Shrimp, Curry, Roti

The Door is a popular Caribbean food spot located in Jamaica, Queens. The restaurant is divided into two sections. One is a calm, white-cloth, table service sit down section and the other is a quick takeout which seems perpetually packed and noisy.

Catering to a primarily local, Caribbean crowd – the food at the Door is pretty good. I really liked their Peppered Shrimp, which had a nice kick to it. Their rotis were superb as was both their chicken and goat curry. I was disappointed with the jerk chicken though which was too dry but the jerk sauce was pretty good.

The service is very friendly but they do function on island time- of course its Jamaica –mon! Expect long waits between dishes but they do give you a nice basket of cornbread to help with the hunger pangs.
