With the recent gentrification of the Lower East Side – it’s heartening to see that some tradition have carried on for almost a hundred years!

 Russ & Daughters has been an institution serving some of the city’s finest Eastern European Jewish cuisine for 99 years now!

 It’s 50’s style, kitschy neon sign welcomes you into smoked seafood haven! Serving everything from smoked salmon, herring, whitefish salad, shmears, caviar, bagels, cream cheese to handmade chocolates, dried fruit and many kinds of halvah – Russ & Daughters has the best of Jewish cuisine and it is fantastic.

 I’m so spoiled now that I drive into from Queens to restock my supplies whenever I run out! My favorites are the Scottish salmon, the kippered salmon and the smoked sturgeon.

 Pair any of these smoked fish with really good bread and a little avocado, some cream cheese and a few capers and you will be in heaven!
