Junior Kuppanna is all the rage in town these days.

Serving Kongu style food from the deep South, this import from Erode offers dishes such as kudal kari, mutton sukka and so on. For the more adventurous you can eat anything from brain to pigeon to intestines and more.

What’s most impressive about this place is just how spanking clean it all is. The kitchen is remarkably well organized and quite spotless. The cooks are quite proud to invite patrons in to showcase their environs.

Junior Kuppanna is family owned and run. It’s first avatar was first opened in Erode in 1960 by Kuppusamy and Rukmani Mudaliar who still oversees the working of the kitchen. It now has branches in Coimbatore and Chennai.

All orders are taken on iPod Touches ( I’m not sure why because the order is still gestured and yelled over to the kitchen) – you gotta love it!

Dishes such as the Pallipalayam chicken and the Empty Biryani ( yes – the name is fabulous – it’s a biryani with no meat) are a must as are any of the sukka dishes and of course the kottu paratha is my favorite.

Here is some of what we ate:
