Pandara Road is a well-known strip for “dhaba” style food in New Delhi. A dhaba is basically a roadside truckers stop where one gets classic Punjabi food like kababs, black daal, rotis and so on. Though the digs at Pandara are hardly roadside – the food still holds its authenticity.
The two biggest competitors on the Pandara strip are Havemore and Gulatis. There are fan followings for both who draw lines that shall never be crossed.
For my first experience I went with the Havemore groupies. The food was reasonably good. Nothing blew me away. I thought the butter paneer was very good as was the stuffed mushrooms. The kababs were also tasty.
The food is heavy as heck – but that’s what this kind of food is all about. It is the perfect late night, after party kind of grub – that’s why its open till 3 AM every night.
Here is some of what we ate:
Stuffed Mushroom
Chicken Tikka
Burrah Kabab
Dal Makhni
Peeli Daal
Butter Chicken
Butter Paneer
Tawa Chicken
Gobhi
