Prosecco DOC, Italy

March is the month for women with Women’s day falling on March 8th and celebrations all month long for ‘Women’s History Month’. What better way to commemorate this than with a bottle of Prosecco DOC.

Women’s Day has been widely celebrated in Italy since the early 1920’s, working to even better complement Prosecco DOCs pairing with the celebration; Prosecco DOC hails from the northeastern region of the country.

I recently received three wonderful bottles of these reasonably priced Prosecco DOC (SRP $15-$20) to sample.

Needless to say, each one had the perfect amount of bubble and sparkle – ideal for the warmer weather of spring and summer.

Here are some the bottles I sampled.

Prosecco DOC 075 CARATI from Piera Martellozzo

The Prosecco DOC 075 CARATI range is based on the sparkling light of 075 Carats. This bottle is excellent as an aperitif, it is suitable both to celebrate and to be enjoyed at any moment of the day. It perfectly matches with starters, light main courses and superb with fish.

DOC Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry from Villa Degli Olmi

This Villa Degli Olmi sparkling wine made using the Charmat method is a DOC Prosecco Spumante Extra Dry. This DOC is a pale yellow wine made by natural fermentation. The taste is fresh with fruity tones. The bouquet is intense and characterized by a pleasant and persistent mousse. It pairs well as an aperitif with all starters, dishes based on fish and shellfish and also with dessert.

Prosecco DOC Brut from Le Monde

The Prosecco DOC Brut has a fruity flavour with hints of apple, floral tones, wisteria and crusty bread. It has a vibrant, pleasantly balanced taste between acidity and sugars and fruity aftertaste. It pairs well with red meat and game.
