Amami Japanese Cocktail Bar, Williamsburg, NYC

The newly opened Amami Japanese Cocktail Bar brings really delicious Japanese eats to Williamsburg.

Veteran Chef Nick Wang, owner of the already established Ako Sushi has over 22 years of experience with his sushi knife. Having worked at Hatsuhana, Sushi Yasuda and more, Wang aims to preserve the traditions of Japanese cuisine whilst showcasing his more creative side too.

The menu at Amami offers favorites across Japanese cuisine ranging from sushi, yakitori, ramen and more. Just take a look at this gorgeously done “Tuna Taco” which is one of their hit list dishes.

What’s so great is that practically everything I tasted from sushi to ramen was really well done.

I have to highlight the ramen, which had a flavourful “Tonkotsu” broth, and came with incredibly cooked soft-boiled eggs. Just look at how perfect the yolks are.

Chef Wang really cares about sourcing high-quality ingredients from reliable vendors. He even makes his wasabi and soy sauce in-house.

Chef is not just an artist in the kitchen but also was the one to design the space, which is absolutely gorgeous. Using reclaimed wood and an eye for detail; Wang has carved out a very charming home in Brooklyn for Amami.

Here is some of what we ate:
