Must try: Shrimp and Chive Dim Sum
One wouldn’t peg Brooklyn to be a destination for Chinese but Pacificana in Sunset Park changes that line of thinking. This gigantic Cantonese restaurant attracts loads of hungry folk – especially on weekends to taste its flavorsome food.
Living so close to Chinatown in Flushing, good Dim sum is only a hop away for me but with all the rave reviews of Pacificana being the best Dim sum in the city – I had to trek over to see what all the fuss was about. We went on a weekend and found the place packed with a reasonable wait to get a table.
Was it worth it? I would say partially. Don’t get me wrong – the food is very good. I think they make some of the best Shrimp and Chive dumplings. Other dishes were quite on par with their Flushing compatriots. I found the dumplings in general to be rather tasty.
The downside for me though was that I found it to be really expensive for Dim sum. Perhaps Queens tabs spoil me but the quality of the offerings and the prices just didn’t warrant the hike for me. I do just fine at my local Flushing favorite Tung Yi Fung at about half the cost!
