I recently attended a dinner organized by The Delhi Gourmet Club at Farzi Café, which is one of the newest contenders in the Gurgaon, Cyber Hub food scene.
Farzi which literally means “illusion” is the lastest creation of the father-son duo Jiggs and Zorawar Kalra who are behind hits like the acclaimed Masala Library in Mumbai and Made in Punjab.
So what does Farzi do that is different? Well practically everything!
The kitchen, at this smart casual restaurant, is helmed by young Chef Himanshu Saini who dabbles in infusing elements of molecular gastronomy into the menu. This results in every dish being a total surprise.
We tried everything staring from the “Strawberry Mishti Doi Shot” which literally bursts flour into your mouth.
We then went on to trying dishes like a upside-down mini raj kachori topped with chutney foam – one of my favorites.
Farzi specializes in creating riffs on food that immerse you in a sense of nostalgia – take for example their dish – “Posh Maggi”. Essentially this dish is gussied up Maggi noodles injected with oodles of flavor – truffle goodness and foie gras at that! It was yum.
Their signature dessert is a Parle-G cheesecake – beautifully executed – you will just have to try it to understand it.
The food is really artfully presented hidden with caskets, books and specially created tableware.
The service at Farzi is phenomenal. I have yet to meet a more enthusiastic, knowledgeable and helpful wait staff. What a team they have put together – kudos to all of them!
