The reputed Iranian cafes that are legendary in Mumbai have finally hit the Delhi eating scene at the ultra hip Cyber Hub in Gurgaon.
Soda Bottle Openerwala – oh so aptly named is owned by AD Singh who has done a fabulous job to introduce Delhites into this idiosyncratic culture. The décor is terrific – done by his wife Sabrina. It is quirky and quaint replete with little Parsi nuances that is a total throwback to an era that was.
Anahita, a talented young Parsi chef, helms the kitchen. She offers on her menu simple eats that’s include a whole list of Parsi Specialties, and Mumbai favorites. There is also a Irani Bakery and Chai Bar menu for a quick drink and nibbles.
There food in general was good though there were highs and lows on the menu. I thought their strengths were in there cutlets which were delicious as was the “Berry Pulao” and “Patra ni Machi”. I was disappointed in their “Salli” dishes – both the chicken and the mutton were not that great.
Even though the food at Soda Bottle Openerwala perhaps not at the level of what I have tried at Britannia& Co – it still hold its own.
I, for one, would definitely go back to soak in some of what wonderful ambience and indulge in the great eats they have to offer.
Here is some of what we ate:
Gana nu Ras
Aloo Aunty’s Vegetable Cutlets
Thick Cheesy Masala Fries
Chicken Baida Roti
Bohra Style Keema Pav
Berry Pulao
Sali Ma Marghi
Patrani Macchi
