I was recently invited to check out Austin Public, a new gastropub located on Austin Street in Forest Hills.
I went in for the review expecting standard pub fare but I have to say that I was really pleasantly surprised at how Austin Public doubles up as not just a neighborhood pub but as a really wonderful food destination too.
Owned by partners Mark and Declan who are both super charming hosts, the kitchen is helmed by the talented Chef Sinead (Mark’s wife) who really cares about what she sends out on plates.
At Austin Public you can order anything from the standard favorites like “Chicken Wings” of all kinds to a healthy and artful plate of “Grilled Salmon w/ Charred Asparagus and Fingerling Potatoes”.
We were treated to an array of wonderful bites, which ranged from a gorgeous “Cheese Plate with Sausages of the day” to a really fresh “Spinach Salad with Goat Cheese, Beets and Walnuts”. One of my favorite dishes was the “Lamb Burger” which was done just right.
Austin Public has an incredible assortment of craft beers on tap along with a full bar of whiskeys, cocktails and more. They have introduced a really popular brunch on weekends and have awesome lunch special deals on weekdays for just $9.95 – a real bargain for the quality of food they offer.
At Austin Public they really know how to keep things fun for their patrons. They have entertaining theme nights on practically every day of the week. Some of the really popular ones are “Trivia Night”, “Ladies Night” and on weekends they have a “DJ Night”, “Band Night” and so on.
I’m really excited to have a place like Austin Public in our midst right in the heart of Forest Hills. With great food and company in a place that feels like home…there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be heading there right about now.
Here is some of what we ate:
Cheese & Charcuterie Board w/ Duck and Pork Sausage
Baby Spinach & Beet Salad
